Evans praises Roms' spirit

Romulus update, by Andy Mitchell

ROMULUS boss Richard Evans hailed the spirit of his side in last weekend’s narrow defeat at the hands of leaders Grantham Town, and called for a repeat performance at Belper on Saturday.

The Roms defied the league standings by putting in a rousing performance against the Gingerbreads, but the champions elect secured victory in the closing stages against ten men after Evans’ side had fought back from two goals down.

The Roms chief said: “It was a good performance from the lads but we were hampered by the sending off – we had no complaints with the decision though.

“It was a great game played in a good spirit, the type of game you want to be involved in, and hopefully that performance should lift the lads for the final few games – although we lost, it was a very positive display.”

This weekend, the Roms face another tough test at Belper Town who have turned a poor start to the season into a late play-off charge.

Romulus beat the Nailers 2-1 in August thanks to a brace from Marvin Johnson, but Evans said that this clash will be a very different test.

“They have a new manager who has bought in a few of his own players – their boss knows this league well and won it twice with Retford so it’s no surprise they are challenging – they will be a different side.

“We have worked on a few things in training this week and we’ve prepared as best we can and as always we’re looking forward to the game, especially after playing so well last week.”

The Roms will be boosted by the return of Nathan Walker from suspension and Sean Robinson should be back for the trip to Derbyshire.

Gavin Day is available for selection but Richard Evans Jnr is still sidelined
