Euro giants in town for tourny!

By David Watters

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League newboys Corby Town are taking on PSV Eindhoven, Leeds United and Newcastle United at Steel Park Stadium this weekend.

The players and fans from three of the best supported clubs in Europe are heading to Northamptonshire on Saturday and Sunday to compete in a two day international pre-season tournament for the Steel Park Cup 2016.

Run on a league format with each side playing each other once in 90 minute matches before Sunday's final, PSV Eindhoven will be hoping to defend their title after beating Corby Town, FC Porto and a Liverpool XI to win the inaugural tournament in 2015.

Corby Town chairman Stevie Noble said: “We are really looking forward to hosting the tournament for a second year, which offers our supporters the chance to see some top sides at Steel Park before the start of the new season, it will of course also provide a very competitive level of preparation for all the teams involved ahead of the 2016/2017 season..”

Steelmen manager Tommy Wright added: "It will be another great spectacle for the fans, who have been fantastic since I have been at the club. It will also get everyone associated with the club excited for the new season, from the players and fans, to the board of directors and sponsors. Again it shows our ambition as a Football Club and the great progress that we are making."

Steel Park Cup tickets are priced at £15 per day for adults or £25 for the weekend with U16s admitted for £5 per day. For more information visit the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club's official website at www.corbytownfc.co.uk.
