Evo-Stik Club Of The Month Awards - February 2019

By James Gordon

The EVO-STIK League Club of the Month awards for February have been revealed.

In the Premier Division, league leaders Warrington Town scoop the award for the second time this season.

Paul Carden’s side ended the month in pole position after coming through a testing run of fixtures.

They started February with an impressive 4-1 drubbing of Gainsborough Trinity, and followed that up with a 3-1 home win over Hednesford Town.

Their most impressive performance came when they ended South Shields’ long unbeaten home run, winning 2-1 in the north east.

They showed their nerve too, coming back late on to snatch a point at home to Nantwich Town and then winning 2-0 away at Workington to make it 13 points from 15.

In the East Division, Sheffield scooped the award having scored 13 goals in four games in February.

It started with a 5-1 thumping of Wisbech Town, before they got the better of Tadcaster Albion by the odd goal in seven.

An away defeat at runaway league leaders Morpeth Town was their only blip, and they rounded off the month with a 4-0 win over Loughborough Dynamo.

James Gregory scored in all three of those victories which have consolidated Sheffield’s play-off position.

A team with play-off aspirations are the victors in the West Division, in the shape of Leek Town.

With the promotion picture tightening every week, Leek managed three wins and a draw in their four February fixtures to keep them in the reckoning.

Perhaps most important were their first two wins of February, in which they defeated Trafford 3-0 and promotion rivals Radcliffe 3-1, both away from home.

Another test followed at home to another side with play-off hopes, Colne, in a game that finished 0-0 before Leek rounded off the month with a 2-0 away win at Widnes.

Both Robert Stevenson and Aaron Bott chipped in with three goals apiece during February.
