Evo-Stik NPL learn Trophy fate

By Tom Snee

Northwich Victoria and Worksop Town find out their Second Round opponents.

All three Evo-Stik NPL teams still involved in the FA Carlsberg Trophy now know their opponents after Tuesday's replays.

Premier Division promotion contenders Northwich Victoria will host Blue Square Bet South side Staines Town following the latter's 2-1 replay win over Maidenhead United. The Swans currently sit second from bottom of their division, and made it through to the Second Round at the second attempt having drawn 0-0 with their aforementioned divisional rivals Saturday. Their only other game in the tournament was a 3-1 win over Ryman League First Division side Folkestone Invicta, so Vics will be confident of causing an upset and reach the last sixteen, having dispatched high-flying Blue Square Bet Premier side Fleetwood Town in the last round.

Sandy Lane will host Worksop Town's clash with Newport County after the Welsh side eliminated Forest Green Rovers in Tuesday's replay. The Tigers put on a stunning display to knock out Tamworth in the First Round on Saturday, and will again have to be on top of their game when they take on County, who are also in the top tier of non-league football. The Exiles possess a colourful history, having reformed from the ashes of the former Football League club of the same name, and will provide sturdy opponents for Worksop, who have enjoyed a resurgence under the stewardship of Simon Clark.

One tie that was already decided before Tuesday night's games was Chester FC's trip to Ebbsfleet United. At a distance of around 220 miles, the Premier Division pace-setters have a huge trek ahead of them before they take on Ebbsfleet, who gained national recogintion in 2008 when it was taken over by MyFootballClub - a company whose members have a key part in club decisions such as transfers and team selection. With Chester's army of travelling fans no doubt looking forward to a trip to the Thames Estuary, the game is seen by many as an upset waiting to happen.

The Evo-Stik NPL wishes all of our member clubs the best of luck in their upcoming FA Carlsberg Trophy games.
