Fan power puts forgotten covers to good use

Droylsden are hailing fan power after supporters helped them cover the pitch at the Butcher's Arms in long forgotten ground sheets to ensure their New Year's Day clash with Salford City in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League has the best possible chance of going ahead.

The Bloods say it took nearly a whole day to get the sheets they bought when they were in the Football Conference out of storage and laid by their fans and officials, pictured, ahead of the fourth versus third clash in First Division North.

On Tuesday, Droylsden secretary Bryan Pace said: "We are doing everything we can to get the New Year's Day game with Salford on thanks to the help of our supporters and ground sheets which were purchased some years ago when we were in the Conference.

"Since that time they had been stored in the most inaccessible place in the ground and all but forgotten. However, thanks to the hard work of staff and supporters they were manhandled out of storage and positioned on the pitch in the hope they might go someway to help us once again beat the weather.

"We cannot thank the lads enough as it took nearly a full day just to extract them from where they had been left but are now in position and rest assured once off they will be easily put back if needed, another example of the power of the supporter, only in Non-League!"
