Fans should check before travelling

By David Watters

The EVO-STIK League's clubs and fans should check before they travel on Saturday with railway staff striking.

Rail travel across the region is expected to be hit with members of the rail workers' RMT union holding a 24-hour walkout in their ongoing dispute with Northern rail over driver-only operated trains.

The second in a series of walkouts planned for six consecutive Saturdays until 29 September will see Northern running 30 per cent of its services, limited or no services at all on some lines and replacement buses on many others.

To help minimise the impact on travellers across the north of England, Northern have published an amended timetable and a full route map showing where services are - and are not - running.

A statement on Northern's website urged passengers to check their guide before setting off. "All customers are advised to check before travelling and, where necessary, may want to seek alternative modes of transport," said the company.

"Across the north of England there are a number of major events taking place this weekend and customers should be aware of the impact the amended timetables will have on travel to and from those events."
