Newcastle Town are looking forward to following the career of teenager Tom Conlon after the youth teamer signed a two year deal with Peterborough United.

Championship manager Darren Ferguson offered the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South club's Under 17s star a contract after impressing him on a four day trial and he signed him on Wednesday.

The teenager, pictured, joined Newcastle after being released by Stoke City and the club's Under 17s manager Gavin Appleby said he wasn't surprised by Ferguson's swoop for the talented teenager.

"I heard via one of the players that Tom was available and remember him playing for the Newcastle District side and the quality he had. I approached him to sign and he jumped at the chance. He has bounced back through the support of the club and team and deserves his chance so we are happy to push his career on.

"The club has a lot of interest from professional clubs so it’s nice to see a lad get another chance. Tom was spotted playing for our Midweek Under 18s Floodlit Youth Team in the FA Youth Cup."

The Castle's secretary Ray Tatton wished the youngster well on behalf of the club and revealed that Peterborough may soon be back to sign more of their talent. He said: "Everyone at Newcastle wishes him all the best and we will follow his progress with interest. Peterborough are also returning for tonight’s [Thursday] FA Youth Cup game against Chasetown to watch two other players who have caught the eye."
