Horton, pictured, left the South Kesteven Sports Stadium citing disagreements over a shared vision for the Premier Division club’s future.
Horton joined the Gingerbreads in March 2014 as the club's new commercial director working alongside the club’s then CEO and former chairman Barrie Pierpoint. The pair worked together previously at Leicester City when Horton was with the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce as CEO.
A sports management and marketing specialist, Horton was named as the new chairman of charity Groundwork Greater Nottingham in 2014 and is also a former CEO of the National Ice Skating Association UK.
Club officials assured fans in a statement thanking Horton for his work following his sudden resignation.
A spokesman said: "The board of directors wish to record their thanks to Keith for all his efforts for the club and assure all supporters that it is business as usual."
