Despite dominating for large swathes of the game, Lancaster only had a one goal advantage going into half-time when Ricky Mercer reacted first to head home Ryan Winder's free-kick just eight minutes into the half.
Kendal keeper Will Kitchen pulled off a string of fine saves to keep the scoreline respectable throughout and Sam Bailey slammed home a penalty early in the second half to give them a chance of earning something from the fixture.
But the lead lasted just two minutes as Zach Clark crossed for Ryan Winder to make it 2-1. City wrapped it up in added time when Aaron Taylor raced through to slot the ball into the bottom corner.
