Football bids final farewell to legend

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Lancaster City invited the family and friends of Neil Marshall to celebrate the life of their former skipper with them on Monday after his funeral at lunchtime.

Mourners were invited to the EVO-STIK NPL First Division North club's Giant Axe home after the funeral service for the father-of-two at Lancaster Priory and internment immediately afterwards at Scotforth Cemetery.

The Dolly Blues legend passed away last week at the age of 31 following a two year battle with cancer of the lymph nodes. Before his retirement in the summer, the defender had made 485 matches for the club since his debut back in 2006. A plumber by trade, he is survived by his wife Kim, daughter Daisy and son Max.

Hailed as one of the “greatest captains and ambassadors” in the club's history, Lancaster City's fans, players and officials held a minute's applause their late defender last Tuesday night when they hosted Mossley, later donating the gate receipts from the 4-3 win to the newly founded Neil Marshall Memorial Fund.
