Former Magpies midfielder set for home debut

Blyth Spartans

Former Newcastle United starlet Michael Richardson could make his Blyth Spartans debut on Saturday in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League.

The 22-year-old, pictured, will go straight into the Spartans squad for the Premier Division fixture against King's Lynn Town at Croft Park after signing for manager Tom Wade on Thursday.

Richardson was released by the Magpies at the end of last season after joining their academy in 2010. During his time at the club he had loan spells in the Football League with Leyton Orient, Gillingham and Accrington Stanley.

Richardson will be familiar to Spartans supporters as he scored the second goal in a 4-0 Northumberland Senior Cup Final win for the Magpies at St James Park last season. That was a feat he had already achieved against Spartans in May 2011 when he got the first goal for the Tyneside giants in the final of the same competition.
