Funding boost for next generation

Grantham Town are looking forward to putting a Grow the Game grant from the Football Association to good use developing their next generation of stars for the EVO-STIK League.

The Gingerbreads are celebrating after being handed a £3000 cash grant from the £2.5 million Football Foundation-administered Grow the Game initiative on Tuesday to spend over the next three years.

In statement from the South Kesteven Sports Stadium announcing the financial boost, delighted officials at the EVO-STIK League Premier club said the funds would go towards providing equipment for their newly formed U21s.

The news comes after the Gingerbreads received confirmation last week that they'd been accepted into the National League U19 Alliance for season 2017-18 to compete against clubs including Lincoln City, Mansfield, Peterborough United and Boston United.

Grow the Game was set up in 2010 to help money flow from the top of football to grassroots in order to help clubs better bear the cost of starting up a new team, whether it be for a new kit, equipment, pitch hire or sending volunteers on FA accredited coaching courses.

Last year the scheme helped in the set up of more than 2,000 new teams and the passing of nearly 6,000 coaching qualifications. Since 2000, the Football Foundation has supported over 15,000 grassroots projects worth more than £1.4 billion.
