Fundraising fixture pencilled in

AFC Rushden & Diamonds's fans held their latest fundraising quiz on Friday night as the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's newboys prepared to welcome their local community to their Dog and Duck home.

To raise further funds at their next home game against Basford United on Saturday 22 October, fans and officials are getting ready to stage the latest AFC Rushden & Diamonds Community Day.

They're hoping for a big gate after deciding fans could 'pay what they want' at the turnstiles to see the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South fixture. Officials say season tickets will still be valid for the game as supporters of both sides are asked to donate what they like.

Diamonds manager Andy Peaks has also been busy this week ahead of their FA Trophy clash at home to EVO-STIK League Southern Histon on Saturday.

After announcing that defender Jason Lee had returned to the club from Rugby Town in midweek, Peaks snapped up former Luton Town, Kettering Town, St Neots Town, Kings Lynn Town, Slough Town and Daventry defender Ash Deeney on Friday.

The versatile 24-year-old - who skippered Daventry and can operate in a right-back or wing-back role - goes straight into the Diamonds squad for the preliminary round tie at the Dog & Duck.
