Gee issues Wrens challenge

Kevin Gee is challenging his Wrens to set a new record over the coming two home games starting on Saturday with Newcastle Town's arrival at Kirklington Road, writes Gordon Foster.

The Rainworth Miners Welfare manager took over a year ago and has yet to see his team win four in a row. But he's confident this could be their time after seeing his side break their away duck in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South over the last two matches with wins at Halesowen Town last Saturday and Romulus on Monday.

Now, with the home game againt Newcastle Town and another Kirlington Road clash against Market Drayton coming up on Tuesday, Gee is hoping to finally make it four wins on the spin, especially after the Wrens also became only the third side to take a point off title-challenging Kinga Lynn Town recently.

Gee said: "Football is all about particular moments which can turn things around, and we’ve had a good week. Perhaps there were things we could have done better against Romulus, but that is being hyper-critical given what we did exceptionally well.

"To take seven points off Kings Lynn, Halesowen and Romulus is a fantastic return. I had a look at Halesowen’s website afterwards and they described us as ‘mid-table Rainworth’. Nobody has ever called us that before, so for us that is positive.

"Newcastle and Market Drayton will be tough because every fixture is tough, no matter which team in this league you are playing. So we will play to our strengths and set out to do what we do best and hope we can continue to climb the table."

Danny Bacon is a doubt for Saturday after picking up a dead leg in the 3-2 win at Romulus but hotshot striker Ian Holmes is home from university and available for the next three games. Defender Ricky Hanson could also figure after regaining his fitness.
