Giant-killers honoured by scribes!

Blyth Spartans boss Tom Wade could only watching this weekend's FA Cup action from the sidelines but he has a brand new trophy to remind him of his own side's exploits last season in reaching the third round.

Invited to the North East Football Writers Annual Dinner after his side's headline-making run, Wade is pictured with the BBC's Ian Dennis after collecting the scribes' annual giant-killers accolade.

Dennis commentated on the Premier Division club's 3-2 thriller with Birmingham City at Croft Park in the third round and according to delighted Spartans officials, he is still following the club's results.

"It turns out Ian follows the Spartans’ results and is fully up to date with how the club is doing this season!" said a Spartans spokesman.

Last Sunday night's event at the plush Ramside Hotel in Durham was attended by many regional and national journalists as well as a host of personalities from North East football including Premier League managers Sam Allardyce and Steve McClaren.
