Gill pays the price for poor start

Kidsgrove Athletic

Kidsgrove Athletic have handed temporary charge of first team affairs to coach Josh Brehaut after manager Neil Gill left the EVO-STIK League club on Sunday.

Former Alsager Town boss Gill, pictured, took over in May following the resignation of Ant Buckle. He parted company with the First Division South club after a poor start to the season had seen his side fail to record a win in five league matches and also exit the FA Cup at the first hurdle.

Currently third-from-bottom, the Staffordshire club had also failed to score in either of their two home games to date and had twice conceded five goals, the latest 5-0 heavy reverse against Spalding on Saturday proving to be the trigger for Gill’s exit less than a month into the new campaign.

When Gill took over the Seddon Stadium outfit had been relegated after finishing bottom and put into the North West Counties League but were later reprieved following the FA’s reshuffle of the pyramid following Worksop Town's decision to resign from the EVO-STIK League.

In a statement announcing Gill’s departure, the club said: "Coach Josh Brehaut will take temporary charge of the side for Tuesday night's clash against Stafford Rangers, while the board search for a permanent replacement.

"Returning president Mick Fitzjohn has assured fans that the club are busy working to improve the team, and Sunday night saw midfielder Aiden Matranga put pen to paper for his ninth consecutive season at Hollinwood Road. More signings are expected to follow over the coming weeks."
