Grantham Town are hailing the appointment of the former head of the Gingerbreads' Supporters Club to their board of directors as a 'watershed' moment in the club's history.

Supporters Club stalwart and fundraiser Tony Fraher was welcomed into his new post at the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit on Thursday by Chairman Pete Railton, pictured right.

In addition to the normal range of responsibilities shared by directors at the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South club, Fraher has been asked to lead the club's efforts on supporter relations while improving and coordinating communication and activity within the club and the local community.

Gingerbreads Chairman Railton described Fraher's appointment as another step forward following the exit of former managers Jimmy Albans and Wayne Hallcro in December and their replacement by another management duo, former Hucknall Town joint managers Gary Sucharewycz and Ian Robinson.

Railton, who replaced former Chairman Steve Boam who also left before Christmas, said: "We have had to rally round since the unexpected departure of the former chairman and managers a few weeks ago but we have now brought in a new management team who are going about the business of building a new team in an energetic and professional manner.

"We know that Tony has a lot to offer the club and we are delighted that he will be working alongside us again. Our shared priority is to provide open and energetic leadership and direction for the club and to support them [Sucharewycz and Robinson] to achieve the highest possible league position in the second part of the season."

Fraher, a Grantham man and lifelong fan, expressed his delight on joining the board and praised the club for expanding director membership to benefit supporters.

He said: "I have been watching Grantham since I was a boy and have been actively involved with the club in some capacity for a number of years. I now look forward to an opportunity to be part of the new board and welcome their desire to broaden the director membership and hopefully I will be one of a number of fresh faces to the boardroom during 2013."
