Gingerbreads pull off Proudlock coup

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South Market Drayton Town are celebrating one of the biggest signings in their history after agreeing a deal with former Wolves striker Adam Proudlock, the Shrophsire Star is reporting.

The Newport-born forward is joining the club on a game-by-game deal after training with them in recent weeks and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's trip to Mickleover Sports.

Manager Jimmy Mullen told the paper that the signing of the former Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich striker – who spent two seasons with Conference Premier side AFC Telford United before having a brief spell with Conference North new boys Chester FC – represents a major coup for the Gingerbreads.

A delighted Mullen said: "It's a great signing for the club. Players like Adam don't come around very often. He has signed a form for us in our league on a game-by-game basis and if something bigger and better comes up then we would not stand in his way. He’s a big fish in this pond and it's a massive coup for us.

"We knew he had finished at Chester and heard he was training with Newport Town. I spoke to him and he has been to training a couple of times. Adam's enjoyed it and we have enjoyed working with him. Adam brings bags of experience of playing in the Football League and the Conference. He holds the ball up well, brings other players into the game and he scores goals."

Proudlock started out as a trainee with Wolves and went on to play first-team football at Molineux before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in 2003. Three years later, he made the move to Ipswich and followed that up with spells at Stockport County, Darlington and Grimsby Town. Telford swooped for the striker in the summer of 2010 but injuries restricted his appearances for the Bucks and he signed for Chester in the summer.
