Grantham appoint new chairman

Grantham Town have elected Peter Railton as the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club's new Chairman.

A director since joining the Gingerbread's board in 2008, he has been leading the club's commercial team and replaces Chairman Steve Boam who stepped down at the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division club this week.

Boam, pictured, who's been been a director for six years and Chairman for the last three, has overseen one of the most successful periods in Grantham's history. Since 2009 he has been credited with putting the club's finances on an even keel and helping to firmly establish Grantham in the league's top division after winning the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South title last season.

Grantham paid tribute to their outgoing Chairman in a statement released on Thursday. It read: "The Board of Directors can confirm that Mr Steve Boam has stood down as Chairman but remains a Director. Relocation of his home away from Grantham and pressures from his expanding business mean that he can no longer commit the time to the club necessary as its Chairman.

"The Board wish to place on record its thanks for Steve’s leadership during his spell as Chairman during which the club has achieved so much. They are extremely pleased that Steve remains involved with the club as a Director."
