Greaves is looking on the bright side

The Celtic official and EVO-STIK League director urged fans to keep smiling this summer and focus on the positives they can take into next season after a 2-1 defeat for Adam Lakeland's side at runners-up Ashton United on Tuesday night saw them miss out on making Saturday's top flight play-off final.

Celtic secured the fifth and final play-off spot on the last day of the Northern Premier League's historic 50th anniversary season after beating Selby Town 4-1 to lift the West Riding County Cup and Greaves believes the club is in great shape for the next campaign after the efforts put in by the playing staff, officials, volunteers and fans alike.

Greaves, pictured on the pitch at Throstle Nest, also praised the success of the club's academy and reserves, development, ladies and new Farsley Celtic Deaf sides in his end of season statement.

He said: "It is that time of year again when I look back at the season and see just how much things have changed from this time a year ago and it is a season that we can look upon with great pride. Firstly, I would like to thank the huge list of volunteers who spend hours of there own time and give so much to the football club. As a club we rely heavily on peoples good will and support to run the the operation on a day to day basis. Thank you to all of you who put up with me asking so much of you!'

"This season has seen a 30 per cent increase on our home gates which has been fantastic and I feel that this is due to a number of factors. Being promoted into the Evo-Stik League Premier Division, seeing a number of old and new faces at the Nest this season and the brand of football and passion that we show on the pitch.

"Non-League Clubs like ourselves would not be able to survive if we didn’t have fans who support the lads week in and week out. It was great to see so many travel to Ashton United on Tuesday and thank you from me for your support this season. I hope to see you all back at pre-season ready to go again for the new league campaign.

"What Adam and Mark [Bett] have brought to the club over the last 12 months is something that I have not seen at the club for a few years; Passion, pride and professionalism. These things have all come together for Adam and his team for a great season. It was great to see the club retain the West Riding County Cup at Fleet Lane and Adam to win his first silverware at the club. Hopefully there is a lot more to come."

He added: "I have a huge list of people that I would like to personally thank, but I won’t on here. They all know who they are and I will say my bit to them individually. But I want to say an over all thank you to all. I could not run this amazing club with out you. Enjoy the summer and see you next season."
