Green comes out of retirement to re-join Worksop

Worksop Town Football Club have announced the re-signing of midfielder Paul Green.

The 40-year-old played 13 games and scored four goals for the Tigers, as he helped kickstart their push towards promotion to the Northern Premier League before retiring in November to take up a full-time coaching position at League Two Doncaster Rovers.

He has played for a number of clubs across the Football League and non-league pyramid since beginning his professional career as a trainee with Sheffield Wednesday.

Green has also been capped 22 times by the Republic of Ireland and was included in their Euro 2012 squad.

Manager Craig Parry said: “Once the opportunity came to re-sign ‘Greeny’, it became a no-brainer for us.

“He became a fans’ favourite in the short time that he was with us last season, and what he gave to me inside the changing room and on the pitch was unbelievable.

"As soon as we knew he was available, we acted quickly to get it done.

“We’re glad to get him back on board. There’s strong competition in the centre of midfield and we wanted to make sure that we had every option covered.

“He adds value to the side, and we are really looking forward to working with him again.”

The Tigers have also announced the signing of Colin Daniel from Scunthorpe United as they continue to re-shape their squad following their promotion to the Northern Premier League.

Like Green, the left-sided player also boasts a wealth of experience across the Football League and was part of the Blackpool squad promoted to League One via the play-offs in 2016/17.
