Clitheroe land new midfielder

Clitheroe have signed Marine midfielder Mark Howarth for an undisclosed fee.

Howarth has been on the club's radar for some time, and will add a physical presence in the Blues engine room.

The 24-year-old operates primarily in the centre of midfield but Clitheroe say he can also be utilised in a number of positions when called upon.

The former Guiseley & Salford City man had two very successful years playing at Marine, winning promotion during the 2021/22 campaign and going on to become a mainstay of the Mariners' starting XI last season.

Despite a number of offers from different clubs, Howarth will link up with manager Dave Dempsey's squad ahead of Clitheroe's pre-season campaign.

"I am delighted with the addition of Mark to a very strong group of players," Dempsey said.

"Mark will be an integral part of the squad this season and help us achieve our ambitions of moving Clitheroe Football Club upwards.

"We have worked hard to improve what is already a great group. Mark has the pedigree, he fits the profile of player we are looking for and I am sure he will be a welcome addition to the club on all fronts."
