Greenbacks install ex-Knitters duo

Former Hinckley United management duo Stuart Storer and Andy Penny have taken over at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Bedworth United.

The relegation-threatened Greenbacks parted company with their second manager of the season last week when Nick Hawkins left by 'mutual consent' following a run of league defeats that saw them slump to the bottom of the First Division South table. He'd followed in the footsteps of his predecessor Ady Fuller who left the club in October.

Storer and his assistant Penny were in charge, pictured, when the Knitters finally went into liquidation in October following well documented long-running financial difficulties. Penny will be a popular appointment as manager with supporters, having been a firm favourite at the Oval as a tough-tackling central defender during a two-year spell in the mid 1990s.

Bedworth's new manager and his assistant saw their new charges end a dismal seven-game losing league run from the stands on Saturday with a 3-3 home draw against Brigg Town. With the Greenbacks currently second from bottom, the pair were taking training o Thursday night and will be in the dugout for the first time on Saturday at home to Carlton Town.

Chairman Peter Randle thanked the club's caretaking duo of Gavin Hurren and Russell Peel for their work before welcoming Storer and Penny to the club. "Thanks must go to Gavin and Russell for holding the fort until we got things sorted out," said Randle. "Their help has been greatly appreciated. We wish them well in the future and feel confident that they will go on to be successful.

"I would like to welcome Stuart and Andy to the club and we look forward to working together and hopefully can turn things around. We hope to see everyone back at The Oval on Saturday supporting the team in our match against Carlton Town."
