Gresley appoint new boss

By James Gordon

EVO-STIK League East division side Gresley FC have appointed Gavin Hurren as the club’s new manager.

Hurren, 33, was present on Saturday to watch his new side lose 3-0 at Cleethorpes Town to slip to the bottom of the table.

A former Nottingham Forest trainee, Hurren enjoyed a successful non-league playing career with Kidderminster Harries, Mansfield Town, Crawley Town, Gateshead and Tamworth.

He has spent the past six seasons working within various management teams as assistant and he impressed the five-man selection panel at interview to earn his first job as manager.

Gresley chairman, Mark Alflat, said: “We received a total of 17 applications for the position which we were really pleased with and took a great deal of time last weekend in discussing who we would shortlist for interview which in its own right was very difficult given the calibre of many of the applicants.

“Those we interviewed impressed us greatly but the panel saw a number of standout qualities during Gavin’s interview that impressed to the point that the panel unanimously agreed that we would be the club to give Gavin his first opportunity to make his mark as a manager in his own right.”
