Haddrell to stay with Blues

Leek Town update, by Michael Cope.

Leading scorer Matt Haddrell, who has netted 18 goals so far this season, has opted to remain at Harrison Park after Witton Albion had served seven days notice of approach for the big striker.

Albion boss Brian Pritchard expressed an interest in the former Macclesfield Town striker after his side lined up against Blues in three cup ties in recent weeks but Haddrell has confirmed that he is going nowhere.

Since returning to Leek for a second time during the summer, Haddrell has struck up a potent partnership with James McCarthy and between them they have scored 32 goals so far this term

Roberts needs surgery
Leek Town keeper Danny Roberts returned to hospital last week for a re-assessment of his fractured eye socket after the swelling reduced and the news was not what was hoped for.

The initial assessment was quite favourable but the re-assessment revealed that the big keeper will need three plates inserting around the damaged eye.

Roberts, who has been told by the specialist that surgery may not take place until February, was carried off in the away game at Sheffield on 19 November following an accidental clash of heads.

Coming up
Leek Town entertain Lincoln United on Tuesday in a re-arranged fixture that was postponed earlier in the season due to cup commitments.

United have dropped to 14th place in the table with 26 points from 20 games played and are currently on a run of two draws and four defeats in their last 6 games.

However, The Whites are in the unique position of having won more league games on their travels (5) than they have at home (1) and are fast becoming draw specialists with 8 so far this season following their home draw against Romulus on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Blues travel to play lowly Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday who have just confirmed the appointment of former Leek midfielder Chris White as their new manager.

White joined Shepshed in the summer as assistant to ex Blues’ manager John Ramshaw and when Ramshaw left in late October to take over the management duties at Blue Square Eastwood Town, White was appointed ‘Caretaker Manager’.

To date, White has been in charge for a total of ten games, with a record of W3 D3 L4 and it was obvious to the Board that he enjoys the full support of the players and the confidence of the supporters thus making his permanent appointment inevitable.

However, White now has a job on his hands as Shepshed are currently anchored in the relegation zone and their cause has not been helped by two big away defeats of 6-0 at Carlton and 4-2 at New Mills in their last two games.

Blues bonanza anniversary draw
The Leek Town Monthly Draw is celebrating its first anniversary with a mega-jackpot draw in the New Year.

It is now almost a year since the draw was launched and we are delighted to say in that time it has raised around £7,500 for the club with over £8,500 paid out in prize money, having paid out slightly more than 50% in winnings.

To celebrate the draw’s success the club will be holding a mega jackpot draw in January with the following prizes:
1st Prize - £500; 2nd Prize - £200; two 3rd Prizes of - £100; four 4th Prizes of - £50

However, you have to be in it to win it as they say, so make sure you sign up if you haven’t already or if you paid a 12 months subscription a year ago, please renew your membership.

The draw now boasts over 300 members, but the club would love to have more. It’s only £5 a month and the money raised really is vital to the club’s success on and off the pitch. Full details and an application form are available on the club’s website.

So, if you're not already a member this would be a great time to join - if you are a member please encourage your friends and family to sign up.

Leek Town Football Club needs to keep up this level of membership, which will help the club through the rest of this season and the start of the next.

And so club officials are urging all existing members to keep their membership going (particularly those who last year paid £60 to cover the full year - the club needs all those people to pay again).

Fans forum

Leek Town Football Club will be holding a Fans’ Forum in the Blues Bar on Thursday 8th December kicking off at 8pm.

This will be the supporters’ chance to put any questions they may have to Lee Casswell, the management team and the players.

So, if anyone would like to ask why we play 5-3-2, or why their favourite player isn't in the starting line-up etc, then this is their chance to get all the answers!
