Hanley retain former Premier League defender

Hanley Town have announced Player-Manager Ryan Shotton has committed his future to the club for another year.

Shotton, who has represented Stoke City in the Premier League, and also Derby County, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City over the course of his career, has been with the Stoke-based side since 2021 as Player-Manager.

The 34-year-old helped the West Division side stay in the league, having avoided the relegation play-off on goal difference. He previously led Hanley to promotion from the Midland Football League Premier Division in 2022.

This year, he made 16 playing appearances since the turn of the year, starting all but one of those games.

Assistant coach Ben Chapman has also signed on for another year. A goalkeeper, he made four appearances for the club last year.

Completing the trio is Tim Sanders, who has also committed his future to Hanley.
