Hot-shot commits to promotion hunt

Carlton Town

Aaron Hooton will head up Carlton Town’s strike force in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League next season as the Millers target promotion to the top flight.

The 23-year-old, pictured, scored nine times during the second half of last season while on loan at Stoke Lane from Premier Division Ilkeston FC. His tally included two goals and the man-of-the-match award in Carlton’s 6-2 win over Rainworth Miners Welfare in April’s Nottinghamshire Senior Cup Final.

The forward told the club’s website he was delighted to commit to next season’s First Division South campaign and manager Les McJannet who recently signed a new one year contract to extend his reign at the Millers into a fifth year.

Hooton said: "I am delighted to have signed a contract at Carlton. I have spoken to the gaffa and the chairman over the last couple of weeks and am looking forward to a successful season and hopefully lots of goals next season.

"The lads, manager Les McJannet and chairman Mick Garton are a big reason in choosing to stay at Carlton, it is a good dressing room and a club where I am enjoying my football and I want to make the number 10 shirt my own, that is really important to me."

Chairman Mick Garton said: "I must admit that in general I leave signings to Les and his staff but was especially keen to keep Aaron at the club. Most of his questions during talks were about the club and other players and ambitions rather than about himself and he ticked all the boxes for me.

He added: "It is true I look for a certain kind of attitude on a personal level for players being rewarded with contracts and I am delighted Aaron will be leading the line next season."
