Marine have signed Burscough's free-scoring striker Will Jones.

Jones, who scored 12 goals in 14 appearances after joining Derek Goulding's Evo-Stik NPL First Division side from Nantwich in October, arrived at the Arriva Stadium on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old forward, pictured signing alongside Mariners manager Kevin Lynch and Chairman Paul Leary, should be available for Saturday's Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division trip to Kendal.

Lynch, who is delighted with the additional firepower Jones will bring to his fourth place side, said: "This signing excites me and is a great coup for Marine. Will is young, has pace, works hard and knows where the goal is. I am certain that the fans will love him because of how much work he puts in for the team.

"This demonstrates again the calibre of players we are trying to bring to Marine to enable us to move onwards and upwards. Will is having a great season but this shows his hunger and desire to play at a higher level and we want to help him showcase his talent here at Marine.”

Marine Chairman Paul Leary believes the locally based player will thrive under Lynch and boost his manager's options following the departure of forward Marcus Carver for the Football League.

Leary said: "Will has made an impact since joining Burscough and features in the Evo-Stik Division Onw North leading goal scorers list with his 12 goals. He lives in Crosby and I know that he too is excited at signing for his local football club, Marine.

"Kevin and I are really pleased that he has agreed to sign for us. His signing will certainly increase our firepower which has been lacking since the departure of Marcus Carver back to Accrington Stanley."
