Hot shot returns to Wire

Warrington Town

Warrington Town have signed former Football League striker Kevin Townson ahead of Saturday's Evo-Stik NPL kick off.

Townson, 29, scored 25 goals in 102 appearances for Rochdale from 2000 to 2005 and also turned out for Macclesfield Town in the League.

Townson joined manager Shaun Reid briefly at the back end of last season in Evo-Stik NPL First Division North and scored on his debut before being sidelined with injury.

Reid believes he's back to his best after keeping fit through the summer while working as a coach and is already looking forward to seeing the experienced forward's goals aid the Wire's promotion push in the new campaign.

A delighted Reid said: "Kevin is a proven goal scorer and will add a new dimension to our attack. He has returned fit and ready for action."

Townson, pictured, also enjoyed a couple of seasons in Australia where he won the Bill Fleming Media Player of the Year in the Victorian Premier League in 2010 for the Melbourne Knights.

More recently, he played at Evo-Stik NPL Premier new boys AFC Fylde, scoring 22 times in just 35 games.
