Defender James Neild went straight in to the starting line-up for the 3-2 FA Trophy defeat at Buxton after signing on dual-registration forms from Curzon Ashton, with Tigers boss David McGurk without nine players through injury, suspension and ineligible players.
Striker Chris Sharp and midfielder Jordan Wynne both appeared as second half substitutes, while a fourth new signing, midfielder Jack Gibney, was an unused substitute.
McGurk said: “James is someone we spoke to in pre-season but he was trying to stay in the pro game at the time and took up an offer of a trial with Barnsley.
“We are looking to get him (Jordan Wynne) back to the player he was at Prescot Cables. He come to our attention the year we came up as he was the best player on the pitch against us. He’s not settled anywhere since but there is a player in there and I’m hoping we can help him develop with the environment here.
“Chris fits the profile of the striker we have been looking for since the beginning of the season. He’s a good player in his own right but I think he will bring the best out of the forward players around him. Some of our forward play has been brilliant at times this year and Chris now brings another option to use throughout the season.”
Gibney has been playing for the club’s reserves team, while also featuring for Burscough.
