Branagan moves to Ewen Fields with plenty of experience under his belt. In this country, he has represented Bury, Salford City, Macclesfield, Chorley and Droylsden.
He has also played in Australia with Beograd Woodville, and in Japan with SRC Hiroshima.
The 31-year-old, who is the son of former Bolton and Cambridge goalkeeper Keith Branagan, has also represented the Republic of Ireland at under-21 level.
On his signing, he said: “I spoke to Spoons (Hyde manager Nick Spooner) a week or two ago, and the way he was speaking about the club, the fans and how they are a massive part of the club. That’s really important.
“Secondly, I remember when I was with Salford as a kid, I trained with Bolton Wanderers’ reserve and youth teams. Spoons was part of that set up.
“The things I can remember from it was that the atmosphere was so good, which is massive when it comes to being a successful team.
“That atmosphere was created by Spoons, and Gavin McCann, and all the other coaches. The players they brought through were fantastic as well.
“I was happy to be a part of that, and to be a part of it at Hyde with Spoons again was really appealing to me.”
