Jennings the final piece in Bucks puzzle

By James Gordon

Buxton manager Paul Phillips believes he’s found the final piece of the jigsaw in former Wigan winger Ryan Jennings.

Happy to have kept a large proportion of the team that made the play-offs last season, in a recent interview Phillips admitted he was probably one short, and that void has been filled.

Phillips said: “Kept a good nucleus of the team, probably one player short of where we want to be. If we can get a left sided player, a winger, then think we’ve got a great squad.

“The club’s going in the right direction, both at the top and with the academy, and hopefully that will provide us with players to use as and when we need them.”

Jennings, 24, played for Ashton United last season and has also turned out for Alfreton Town, Curzon Ashton and Nuneaton Borough.

The Bucks have been dealt a blow with injury news to defender Josh Meade, who needs an ACL operation following an injury picked up in the friendly against Leek Town.

The club has moved quickly to bring in former Southport centre-back Billy Priestley.

Buxton start the new BetVictor Northern Premier season with a tough trip to Scarborough Athletic on Saturday.
