Josh King makes Morpeth Town switch

By James Gordon

Former York City defender Josh King has joined Pitching In NPL Premier Division side Morpeth Town.

The versatile youngster can also play in midfield and has impressed manager Craig Lynch during pre-season.

The move will see King return to the club he originally joined for the closing stages of the 2019/20 campaign. However, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic meant he never made an appearance for the Highwaymen.

“I had one training session, I got told I was starting on the Saturday and then the season came to an end because of the Covid lockdown restrictions. It was very disappointing,” he said following the move.

“I'm excited for the challenge now. I know how Morpeth want to play and I believe it suits my playing style. I don’t mind getting stuck in and doing the harder side but when I can but I like to play attacking football.

“Every player wants promotion and that’s what we are aiming for and more than capable of it.”

Highwaymen boss Lynch was happy to get his man as he seeks to add to the final touches to his squad with the new season kicking off away at Warrington Town on Saturday 13 August.

“I’m delighted to get Josh signed,” he said. “I’ve known Josh since he was 16 and he was due to come to us on loan before Covid, so it’s been a long time coming.

“He’s a player who has been a part of the York promotion squad, which is valuable experience within a winning mentality.

“He’s a young lad who is comfortable playing in multiple positions and will be a valuable player for us who will only get better.”
