Grantham Town's emerging young players are a step closer to cup glory after reaching the final of the Lincolnshire County Cup.
On Tuesday night the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club's Under 16s hammered Cleethorpes based Clee Community FC 9-2 in the competition's semi-finals to set up a final against Birchwood.[/b]
Managed by Eddie Humphreys, who acted as caretaker manager for the Premier Division club's first team earlier in the season, Grantham's youngsters outclassed their opponents at the Meres to cruise into their first cup final. They effectively ended the tie as a contest by half time with a 6-0 lead. After changes by both sides at the break, a more competitive second period saw Grantham add three more goals but concede twice.
Humphrey's side have enjoyed their debut season in the Midland Junior Premier League, more than holding their own against the likes of Kidderminster Harriers and Corby Town.
