Kelly pleased with Scarborough victory

Darren Kelly hailed his side's performance as 'brilliant' following the 3-2 victory over Gainsborough Trinity.

It's two from two for Kelly since his takeover at Scarborough, defeating Whitby Town 2-1 at home before travelling to The Northolme to take on Curtis Woodhouse and his Gainsborough side.

Joseph Maguire opened the scoring in the 37th minute for the home side, before James Walshaw eqaulised just before the half-time break.

Again, the Holy Blues took the lead through Declan Bacon, before Isaac Assenso made it 2-2 and Connor Thompson scored in the dying minutes to claim the three-points for the side, who had won just five games heading into the fixture.

“It feels brilliant," Kelly told Scarborough Athletic FC Media.

"Especially parts of the second half, I thought we were under pressure. They’re a very good side with a great manager.

"Second half we changed slightly from a 3-5-2 to a 4-4-2 diamond, trying to overload the middle area. The first 15 minute it didn’t quite click, but then we started to find that extra man.

"They pinned us back for around 10-15 minutes and it caused us a few problems. A world-class save from Thomas [Taylor] at 3-2 with only a couple minutes to go. It was unbelievable, your heart is in you’re throat at the stage.

Kelly also praised the support from the fans who made the 80-mile trip.

"It was great support down again today and it was brilliant. It’s always good when you see from a supporter’s point, they see players put the effort in and at times it might not go our way, but something we’ve probably missed this season is a bit of luck.

"When it comes to that third goal, Connor was very composed and it was a great finish and we probably deserved that bit of luck. They’re a good side and no doubt they’ll get up the league.

“From us, effort wise [we were] faultless. The effort, commitment and desire from the players and you could see the after the third goal and the way they celebrated that with the supports and that’s what it is about."
