Kendal name Edmondson as new manager

Kendal Town have kept their promise to supporters by naming local man and former player Steve Edmondson as their new manager on Friday.

The Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Mintcakes vowed to appoint a locally based manager to concentrate on promoting local players after the exit of Lee Ashcroft last week.

Edmondson, who takes over for Saturday's home game against Eastwood game, meets the members run club's new strict criteria to focus on finding future talent from the South Lakeland area. He lives and runs various businesses in Windermere and has previously played for and managed Kendal Town. Most recently he managed Ambleside United.

Reserve team manager David Foster, who'd been made caretaker manager following Ashcroft's exit for Northwich Victoria, has been appointed as Edmondson's assistant manager. Foster is also locally based and lives and teaches in Kirkby Lonsdale.

Neil Uberschar has been appointed as a first team coach to complete Kendal's new management structure. Uberschar, who played for Lancaster City, also lives and works in Windermere and is currently a coach with Ambleside United.

Chairman Haydon Munslow is delighted that all three coaches achieve their community based aims by living and working in the South Lakeland area and is looking forward to a new era at the Cumbrian club.

He said: "Our management committee is delighted that a local ‘dream team’ of Steve Edmondson, David Foster and Neil Uberschar will be working together to take the first team forward. They already have a number of experienced new players lined up to join our reconstructed South Lakeland based team who will train on Milnthorpe’s state of the art weatherproof 3G just outside of Kendal.

"We hope our fans will now get behind the lads, watch the training, attend the home matches cheering on the Mintcakes as we engage in this highly competitive league."

Kendal say they expect to make an announcement on the appointment of a new reserve team manager in the next few days.
