Kidsgrove set up Hartlepool trip

By James Gordon

EVO-STIK West Division side Kidsgrove Athletic shocked Premier Division Workington to book an FA Cup tie at National League side Hartlepool United.

An extra time winner at the Novus Stadium helped Kidsgrove through in the third qualifying round replay on Wednesday night.

The initial contest finished 0-0 at Borough Park last Saturday and it was 0-0 at the break in the replay.

But it was the Reds who eventually broke the deadlock on the hour-mark when Sam Joel leapt highest following a corner to power a header past Dom Kurasik.

Grove didn't have to wait long for their equaliser though as 8 minutes later, defender Lewis Bergin spotted Workington 'keeper Aaron Taylor off his line and lobbed the ball 45-yards over the backtracking Taylor.

Workington thought they had won it at the death as Conor Tinnion struck the post a minute into stoppage time

So, it was to extra-time, and the only goal came in the 100th minute when Anthony Malbon played through Rumieno Valido-Barai, who showed a turn of pace before slotting home under Taylor to give Grove victory.
