Leaders target sixth win on the spin

Leek Town manager Lee Casswell is targeting a sixth straight win on Saturday when his table-toppers head to Goole AFC in Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South, writes Michael Cope.

With the Blues enjoying an enforced midweek break after their scheduled match against Gresley on Tuesday was postponed with the Moatmen playing in the FA Trophy, Casswell hopes the time off will see him take a fully refreshed squad to the Victoria Pleasure Grounds.

Casswell, whose side stretched their lead at the top to seven points following Saturday's 4-0 win at home to third placed Mickleover Sports, said: "We’re now at a stage where we need to clear up one or two knocks and with Gresley involved in an FA Trophy replay, we’ll take this week off to get a few of the lads some treatment before the trip to Goole on Saturday."

Leek's weekend win at Harrison Park was the only game played in First Division South with the FA Trophy taking centre stage and Casswell was delighted that his side held their nerve to take full advantage.

The Blues manager also picked out Ant Danylyk for special praise and said: "Our all-round performance was very good but I would like to take time out to highlight Ant Danylyk’s performance. He gets us going with his all-action style and he thoroughly deserved his goal – I think he enjoyed that.

Casswell, who strengthened his squad last week with the signing of Market Drayton Town midfielder Rhys Swetnam, 21, added: "This was a really important game with all our rivals engaged in the FA Trophy. It was essential that we took advantage to stretch our lead at the top and things went our way when we took the lead. We started at a good tempo and deserved to take the lead. Unfortunately, we panicked a little in the second half but the second goal settled us down and we went on to win comfortably."
