League remembers with nation

The British and Commonwealth servicemen and women who've died in conflicts around the world since The Great War of 1914-18 will be remembered before fixtures in all three divisions of the Northern Premier League and those in the second qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy.

Poppy sales and collections are being made around the league by many clubs while a number are also inviting current and former members of the armed forces to see their matches for free as the nation remembers the fallen this weekend.

Remembrance Sunday is held on the second Sunday in November, the nearest to Armistice Day on November 11 when the guns of the global conflict finally fell silent in 1918 after four years of war. Two minutes' silence will held at 11am before the laying of wreaths at war memorials around the country, the silence representing the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 when the war ended.
