League unites for 'Movember'

Don’t be surprised if half the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League ends up moustachioed and bearded by the end of Movember!

The league’s official fans Facebook group has launched a campaign for clubs to raise £20,000 between them for Prostate Cancer UK and the Institute for Cancer Research by encouraging fans, players and staff to grow their facial hair.

Last November more than £70 million pounds was raised as more than a 100,000 men nationwide took part and the group say they want to show what a league from the North of England can do when united.

Grantham Town are leading the way with the management and coaching staff led by joint managers Jimmy Albans and Wayne Hallcro declaring their top lips razor free zones until the end of the month. The joint managers are pictured with first team coach Dennis Rhule goalkeeping coach Mick Hogg and kitman Paul Albans, front.

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South sides Coalville Town and Halesowen are two more clubs who’ve already come forward to announce their backing for the campaign with fans and players taking part.

The NPL facebook group’s spokesman James Heyes is delighted with the response so far and said: "It was time we united to show what fans and clubs of a league from the North can do when bonded together. Players, fans, officials, anyone who are doing their bit to help out should all let us know.

"As someone who has seen family members suffer in the past with cancer ‘Movember’ is one of the more important events in the calendar so I have set a target within the League’s Facebook group to get involved and get £20,000 together."
