Leg break fears for Armstrong

New Mills

New Mills player and assistant manager Paul Armstrong was taken to hospital on Monday night after suffering a suspected broken leg during the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club's Manchester Premier Cup win against Irlam FC.

The 27-year-old, pictured, was hurt eight minutes into the second half of the quarter final clash with the North West Counties League outfit and taken to Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport by ambulance. Play at the First Division North club's Church Lane was stopped for more than half an hour with New Mills leading 2-0 while Armstrong was treated on the pitch by medics.

New Mills eventually won the tie 2-1 with goals from Michael Smith and Rico Colulo despite Irlam pulling one back through Christian Lawlor 12 minutes from time.
