Legend is new director of football

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Grantham Town have unveiled Adrian Speed as their new director of football.

A club legend, Speed needed no introduction to fans at the Meres when his appointment was announced on Wednesday having played 667 times for the Gingerbreads during a playing career spanning 16 seasons.

Speed, who will act as a intermediary between manager Adam Stevens and the board as well as the newly formed GTFC Academy, is looking forward to his new challenge.

Pictured alongside Stevens, he said: “I’m proud and privileged to become director of football at a club that I have spent so much of my life. I’m genuinely pleased to be here at the Club and very much looking forward to getting down to work.”

Grantham boss Stevens said: "We enjoy a good relationship together which will form a good go between between the playing side of things and the board of directors. Being a football man and a Grantham legend can only be a major positive, in terms of making the football club progressive as a whole."

Academy manager Alex Cross also welcomed Speed's appointment in a statment released by the club. “Fantastic to see Adrian appointed in such an important position," he said. "As the academy manager, this will hopefully allow us to build a strong pathway for players to progress into the first team.”

Grantham Town president Roger Booth added: “I'm delighted Adrian has accepted our offer to join the club in an official capacity having been an ambassador of the club for many years since his retirement. I'm sure he will work well with both Adam Stevens and Alex Cross.”
