Legends mean mega Bucks

Buxton are hoping to attract their biggest crowd in years to Silverlands when a Manchester United Legends XI arrive on Father's Day.

A Bucks XI led by manager Martin McIntosh is kicking off against the former Red Devils on Sunday June 16 and the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club say the fixture is already capturing the imagination of surrounding towns and villages.

Buxton Director David Hopkins, who is also Managing Director of the Premier Division club's main sponsor, M. Markovitz Ltd, said: "What could make a better Father's Day treat than tickets to see Manchester United's Legends here in Buxton? This area has long been a hotbed of Manchester United fans and here's the perfect opportunity to see their Red Devils heroes of days gone by."

The Bucks believe the fixture will be a major cash generator in the close season with the big crowd expected and the local business community already embracing the headline event.

Buxton Director Paul Jenner said: "As soon as the fixture was confirmed four main sponsors immediately stepped forward to support the event, namely Lomas Distribution, Buxton and Leek College, Lafarge Tarmac Cement and Lime Division and New Bodies Gym. We are grateful for their support and delighted they can join us for what is sure to be a very special day."

Jenner, who says corporate packages are now going on sale, warned fans to get their tickets early to avoid disappointment as the club expect another surge in interest when United's expected squad is revealed in the coming weeks.

He added: "Tickets will be available on a first come first served basis so whether you want to treat Dad for Father's Day or simply enjoy seeing the legends play please ensure you get them early to avoid disappointment as numbers are limited."

Tickets went on sale this week priced at £12.50 for adults and £35 for a family ticket covering two adults and two children. As well as being on sale at the club's shop and on their official website - www.pitchero.co.uk/clubs/buxtonfc - they can also be purchased from Markovitz's Buxton branch on Staden Lane and from Muzik and More, off Buxton Market Place.
