Legend's passing will be mourned by all

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Kendal Town will be among the clubs leading the tributes to Sir Tom Finney after he passed away on Friday.

The post-war superstar, pictured, was 91 and will be mourned as one of football's true legends and gentlemen. Nicknamed 'The Preston Plumber', the gifted winger won 76 England caps and scored thirty times for his country.

After turning out in more than 400 games for Preston North End, his only club, he was awarded an OBE in 1961 and made a CBE in 1992 before being knighted in 1998. As well as being the Championship club's President, England's oldest living international before his death was also President of the First Division North's Mintcakes.

When the club recently regained full control of Parkside Road after winning a long battle over the running of facilities, fans were asked to rename the clubhouse. Just two weeks ago, they chose to honour the late footballing knight when they opted for 'Finney's Sports and Social Club', inevitably shortened to 'Finney's'.
