Legends see stalwarts honoured

Frickley Athletic have honoured a quartet of club stalwarts by making them vice-presidents of the EVO-STIK League's Blues.

Brian Bellwood, Terry McCroakam, Jimmy Aisbitt, pictured above, and Steve White, were honoured at the SW Jackson Utilities Stadium before the weekend's action on Friday night at the EVO-STIK League South club's inaugural vice-presidents induction evening.

The event at Westfield Lane, which also saw £150 raised to support crocked keeper Sebastian Malkowski, was at attended by more than 60 people including a veritable who's who of Blues legends - Sean Marshall, Mally Wright, Barry Gill, Russ Wilcox, Colin Bishop, Tommy Meehan, Gary Mallender, Craig Smith and Pete Heaney who drove up from London just to attend.

A Blues spokesman said: "Thank you to everyone who attended a cracking night out. The club would also like to say thank you to the Supporters Club for their role on the night and also for paying for the Mick Twiby sign that we will be going up on the main stand. Well done to all concerned."

Frickley Athletic's fans have been raising funds to help the club's Polish keeper Malkowski after the injury he sustained in their victory at Cleethorpes before Christmas left him unable to work and support his young family. Blues supporters stepped in to help raise over £1,000 before Christmas and are still fundraising after he suffered an ACL tear in the club's 1-0 win at the Owls in EVO-STIK League South on Saturday 23 December.
