Linnets keep succession internal

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Burscough have opted to promote from within to replace departed manager Dave Powell.

Powell's coaches Keith McCann and Simon Hardman took over with immediate effect on Wednesday following a meeting with the EVO-STIK NPL First Division North club's owners and directors at Victoria Park on Tuesday night.

In a statement on their website from director of football Dave Sutton, the Linnets named Hardman as their new head coach and McCann as his number two until the end of the season. Keeper's coach Phil Fisher will continue in his current role with the trio teaming up on the touchline for the first time on Saturday at Farsley Celtic's Throstle Nest.

Powell was appointed in July as the successor to Mark Beesley. The former Prescot Cables boss and assistant manager at Radcliffe Borough, Ashton United and Warrington Town parted company with the club on Sunday after his rock bottom side's 1-0 defeat at home to Ossett Town on Saturday.
