Linnets still targeting promotion double

King's Lynn Town manager Gary Setchell reckons his Linnets are still on course to win back-to-back promotions.

The Evo-Stik NPL First Division South outfit won promotion from the United Counties last term and head into 2013 entrenched in the play-off zone with games in hand on their promotion rivals after their run to last 16 of the FA Trophy.

Setchell, who side take a break from league action this Saturday to take on Premier League Norwich's Under 21s in the Quarter Finals of the Norfolk Senior Cup, told the Eastern Daily Press: "We need about another twenty-seven points from twenty-one games. We’d be disappointed if we didn’t make the play-offs now. We need about another twenty-seven points from twenty-one games.

"So we’d be very disappointed if we didn’t get to the play-offs now. We probably need another forty-seven or fifty to win the league, and we’ll give it a go. We can only do that and we haven’t given up.

"Will Coalville Town have a dip? If they don’t, then fair play to them. Will Stamford have a dip? We don’t know. But we just need to concentrate on what we’re doing and make sure we cement our top-five spot. We’ve also got to make sure we do as best as we can in the cup competitions and we must remember how far we’ve come in such a short space of time."

Lynn’s start to life in the Evo-Stik NPL has seen them shock a host of clubs already and on New Year's Day they kept their charge going - a brace from Shane Tolley helping them come from a goal behind to beat one of their main promotion rivals Stamford AFC 2-1.

Setchell was delighted with another precious three points to kick off 2013 and added: "The effort and endeavour these players put in week in and week out is second to none. It does disappoint you when you go 1-0 down and people jump on their back. But like I’ve said before I enjoy that because these players come back stronger. They keep proving people wrong every single week."
