Carl Macauley is the new manager of Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Marine.

The Mariners named the former Vauxhall Motors manager as the successor to Phil Brazier at the Arriva Stadium on Tuesday morning after he signed a two year deal with officials on Monday night.

The 43-year-old took over at the Motormen in 2006 and left in March this year following the club’s decision to resign from Conference North. Since then he has been working alongside Steve Burr at Chester as his assistant manager.

Macauley, pictured with Marine's delighted officials and flanked by his coaching team of assistant manager Gary Martindale and coach Anthony Wright, has worked as a full-time coach at Liverpool for the last ten years and is now looking forward to leading the city's number one Non-League club.

Marine's new manager said: "First of all I would like to thank the committee at Marine for providing me and my staff with this fantastic opportunity and we are excited and look forward to this new challenge.

"Marine has fantastic supporters and I hope to provide them with attractive football and to getting the results they deserve. This club has a great history and I hope to bring those times back to Marine.

"My first aim is to build a strong squad who are in a position to compete for a place at the top end of the table. I will be looking at bringing in players with experience in addition to developing younger players coming through our youth team here at Marine."

He added: "The hard work starts now so that we are ready and in the best form at the start of the season. I look forward to working with and for everyone connected to Marine Football Club."

Marine Chairman Paul Leary, pictured second from right, believes that with his experience and record, the UEFA B qualified coach is the ideal man to lead them into the next top flight campaign as they target promotion.

Leary said: "The appointment of Carl as Marine manager is massive for our football club. He brings with him a wealth of coaching and senior Non-League managerial experience in his capacities at both Vauxhall Motors and Liverpool FC.

"This is fantastic news for our fans and Carl’s immediate task is to start building a squad that is ready for the new season. This is a really exciting time for everyone involved at Marine as Carl gets into the task of improving results and performances this coming season.

"Joining him at the Arriva Stadium is Gary Martindale and Anthony Wright and together we expect them to bring much needed success back to Marine Football Club.

"I congratulate Carl on his appointment and I look forward to working with him and his staff for the next two seasons and hopefully beyond as we do our best to achieve Conference North status."
