Marine captain to leave club

Marine have announced that defender and club captain Anthony Miley will leave the club.

The 30-year-old made his debut in August 2019 and went on to amass 62 appearances.

He also scored six times - including a memorable goal at Colchester United as the Mariners went on to record their first ever away win over a Football League club.

Miley has been out of the game since breaking his leg at Workington 20 months ago, and following discussions between the defender and manager Neil Young, it has been decided that he will leave the club to get regular game time in pre-season so he can be ready for the 2023/24 campaign.

On the imminent departure, Young said: “Anthony has been here almost as long as me, and has probably been one of my most important signings for the club.

"It was devastating for everyone when he got his injury as he, alongside David Raven, were a tough duo to pass.

"The best way I can describe Anthony is as a gentleman, a winner, loyal and never lets you down. Even when he has been out injured, he has been around the place.

"We awarded him a new contract last season, hoping that at some stage he could have played some part, but unfortunately another injury late on in the season put paid to that.

"Anthony understands at the moment, his game time would be limited at Marine after the time he has had out, but with a long run of games, he believes he will get back to the level he was before his injury, and I don’t doubt that.

"He goes with our best wishes and will always be welcome at the MTA.”
