Marske United honoured at writers' dinner

EVO-STIK League East Division side Marske United were honoured recently at the prestigious North East Football Writers' Association awards dinner, held at Ramside Hall in Durham.

The ceremony was attended by a host of famous faces from North East football including current Sunderland manager Jack Ross, ex-Middlesbrough and Manchester United defender Gary Pallister, ex-Middlesbrough striker John Hendrie, current Hartlepool United manager Craig Hignett, former Darlington manager and ex-Sunderland and Darlington player Martin Gray, former Sunderland player Steve Harper and ex-Sunderland midfielder Kevin Ball.

Marske were honoured, alongside South Shields and Stockton Town, for their achievement in winning the Northern League last season, which saw the Seasiders overhaul Morpeth Town’s lead of 22 points and end the season playing 12 games in 21 days, winning eight and drawing four of them.

Other award winners included Martin Dubravka, who won the North East Player of the Season and Alan Shearer, who won the North East Football Personality Award for raising over £11 million since his retirement.

The awards were compered by BBC Radio 5 Live commentator Ian Dennis, who is pictured interviewing Marske manager Carl Jarrett, who collected the award on behalf of the club.
